Project Description
In this renovation project, we tried to control the integration of private and common space within the apartment in a flexible way, in the effort of giving the clients a better condition of living and sharing the space between each member of their 4 members family. The structure of the existing space contains a big volume for the kitchen, dining and living area which spreads out from the entry to the main balcony of the apartment, and the two adjacent bedrooms connect to this main space by two swing doors. We felt that this composition leads to the isolation of the resting space in terms of spatial interaction and obstruct the unique appearance of the whole apartment. We then started the design with the thought of a change in the center of the apartment where all space around be linked together in order to re-configure the whole space. We decided to locate there an integrated wall-cabinet that serves as a focal element running through all the common – private spaces, giving to the apartment a unique appearance. Besides, it also benefits each of the areas by offering multiple functions such as storage space, display niches and hidden-folding element… on its surface. Following this design direction, the swing doors of the two bedrooms are replaced with the full height sliding doors in order to get more flexible in controlling the open/close state of the private spaces. When these doors are opened, they are completely hidden behind the walls and other furniture elements on both of their sides, giving the sense that the private zone are merged in to the common zone, all the interactions between these space are brought up & there is no more division between different space within the apartment. The elements that define the center of the apartment are featured with the light gray-green paint as the color of the rosemary leaf - the favorite color of the client. It is mixed with the grey, warm wooden tone & natural light giving a calm and airy space. After renovation, beside the existing main circulation of the apartment which is as a straight way goes along with the common space as before, there is now a “sub” circulation along the featured wall that connects the entire space together. By defining this new circulation, we located a bunk bed in the small bedroom, with a curtain for keeping its privacy when needed, and give the access to the small balcony of the apartment to everybody, which is somehow limited with the old layout of the apartment.

Ở dự án cải tạo này, chúng tôi cố gắng để kiểm soát sự hòa hợp giữa không gian chung và riêng tư của căn hộ một cách linh hoạt khéo léo, trong nỗ lực mang tới khách hàng một môi trường chia sẻ không gian sống tốt hơn giữa các thành viên trong gia đình. Cấu trúc hiện trạng của căn hộ bao gồm một không gian lớn chính gồm có bếp, không gian ăn uống và sinh hoạt chung, trải dải từ lối vào tới khu vực ban công của căn hộ, hai phòng ngủ bên cạnh kết nối qua 2 cửa mở trực tiếp vào không gian chính này. Việc bố trí này cho cảm giác về sự biệt lập hoàn toàn của các khu vực không gian nghỉ ngơi, cả về khía cạnh tương tác thị giác với không gian sinh hoạt chung, lẫn sự thống nhất về mặt hình thức của cả căn hộ. Qua tiến hành nghiên cứu phương án cải tạo, chúng tôi nghĩ đến việc đưa vào sự thay đổi ở khu vực trung tâm của căn hộ – nơi có tiềm năng kiểm soát được sự liên kết giữa các không gian xung quanh nhiều nhất, bằng cách đưa vào một đối tượng có thể thay đổi cấu trúc hiện tại cả về mặt liên kết không gian, cũng như tương quan về chức năng sử dụng ở cụm trung tâm căn hộ. Một hệ tường/tủ tích hợp được đưa vào ở vị trí trung tâm, hoạt động như một đối tượng điểm nhấn chính chạy xuyên qua các không gian chung và riêng của căn hộ, nơi mà các diện của nó tương tác trực tiếp với từng khu vực với tính chất khác nhau. Bên cạnh việc mang tới một diện mạo mới có tính thống nhất & độc đáo cho tổng thể không gian căn hộ, lớp không gian bề mặt của hệ này cung cấp không gian lưu trữ/trưng bày đa chức năng giúp nâng tiện ích cho các khu vực mà nó chạy xuyên qua. Cũng theo định hướng không gian này, hai cửa mở vào hai phòng ngủ cũng đã được thay thế thành hệ cửa trượt cao kịch trần, khi mở sẽ trượt giấu vào các hệ tủ, giúp kiểm soát linh hoạt hơn các trạng thái đóng/ mở của các không gian riêng tư. Theo đó, khi hệ cửa trượt ở trạng thái mở, không gian riêng tư của căn hộ được hòa vào không gian chung, mang tới thêm những tương tác về ánh sáng và không gian trong một tổng thể có tính qua lại chặt chẽ hơn.
